Little Rascals Day Nursery & Montessori

Little Rascals Day Nursery & Montessori, established in 1997, provides high‑quality childcare and early education for children aged 1 to 12 years in Knocknacarra, Co Galway. The centre follows the Aistear and Siolta curriculum frameworks, placing a strong emphasis on learning through imagination, creativity, play and the Irish language. Children are spoken to in Irish daily, and a weekly fitness programme promotes a healthy lifestyle. Individual workbooks are produced for each child to develop hand‑eye coordination, concentration, writing, colouring, independence and problem‑solving skills, while a yearly development checklist is reviewed with parents. The facility offers a range of programmes tailored to different age groups, from the Crèche and Day Care for 1‑5‑year‑olds (grouped as Caterpillars, Bumblebees, Ladybirds, Butterflies) to the Rainbows programme for 5‑12‑year‑olds. A dedicated Montessori classroom follows Montessori principles, allowing children to choose from a prescribed selection of activities that foster autonomy, problem‑solving and social development under the guidance of a qualified teacher. An after‑school service provides a homework club, indoor and outdoor activities, and a hot meal for children aged 5‑12, with optional pick‑up from local schools. During the summer, an eight‑week camp runs from 8 am to 5.30 pm, offering a variety of music, art, sport and reading activities.
