About

St. Michael’s Primary School (Scoil Mhichil na Buachailli) in Trim, County Meath, provides a safe, inclusive and inspiring environment for children from 2nd to 6th class. The school follows a Catholic ethos and delivers a holistic “basic training” that nurtures spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional, physical, social and academic development. A strong sense of community underpins daily life, with close cooperation between staff, pupils, parents, the parish and the Board of Management, fostering a climate of trust and love. The school is a senior primary with six additional special classes that support 36 pupils with autism, reflecting a commitment to inclusive education. Facilities include a dedicated autism‑friendly playground funded by the Department of Education and Science, a well‑equipped classroom environment, and a uniform that promotes a sense of belonging. Extracurricular activities such as sport, music and student council further enrich the pupil experience, while the school’s location on Patrick Street opposite the Catholic Church places it at the heart of the historic town of Trim.

History

St. Michael’s Primary School opened on 29 September 1986, inaugurated by Minister for Education Paddy Cooney TD, Bishop John McCormack and Bishop Michael Smith, who blessed the building. Before its establishment, the Christian Brothers provided primary education for boys at the Model School in the old Convent Primary School. In 2001 the Department of Education and Science asked the school to open a Special Class for children with autism spectrum disorder, leading to the construction of a dedicated playground. The school has seen several principals since its opening, with ongoing developments to uniform and facilities reflecting its evolving educational mission.
