About
Scoil Naisiunta Loch Guir is a small, community‑focused primary school situated in Holycross, County Limerick. It prides itself on a low pupil‑to‑teacher ratio, allowing each child to be known personally and supported in a caring, respectful environment. The curriculum blends traditional academic subjects with a strong emphasis on hands‑on learning, encouraging pupils to explore art, science, technology, cooking and gardening through practical projects that make learning engaging and relevant. The school’s facilities were expanded in 2012 with a modern extension that provides bright, well‑equipped classrooms and dedicated spaces for creative and scientific work. A vibrant programme of community engagement sees pupils taking part in local environmental projects, parish initiatives and cultural events, fostering a sense of belonging and social responsibility. As a Catholic school, it upholds values of kindness, respect and inclusion while welcoming children of all backgrounds, aiming to nurture confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
History
Founded in 1854, the school originally operated in the building now known as the Honey Fitz Theatre. In 1966 it relocated to its present site in Holycross, and a modern extension was added in 2012, providing contemporary classrooms and facilities for the school community.
