About

Ballintubber National School is a rural primary school situated in the tranquil countryside of Ballintubber, 14 km from Castlebar and close to the historic Ballintubber Abbey. The school provides a full primary curriculum from Junior and Senior Infants through to 5th and 6th classes, including a dedicated Tír na nÓg class for early childhood education. A preschool operates on the same campus, offering full‑day care and before‑ and after‑school provision, allowing a seamless transition for younger children into the junior classes. The school places a strong emphasis on partnership – fostering collaboration between parents, teachers and the wider community. Its mission highlights the development of each child’s moral, spiritual and academic potential, while promoting self‑esteem, confidence and a culture of trust, honesty, respect and responsibility. Recent investment under the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan saw interactive whiteboards and related equipment installed, supporting digital learning and helping to bridge the digital divide for pupils at risk of educational disadvantage. Facilities include modern classroom technology, a safe and welcoming environment for both pupils and staff, and a range of extracurricular activities such as the after‑school service provided by Súgradh Le Chéile. The school’s ethos is rooted in caring for every learner and encouraging lifelong learning within a supportive, community‑focused setting.
