About

Scoil Naomh Pádraig is a suburban primary school set on approximately 1.2 hectares of landscaped grounds in Ballyroan, Rathfarnham. It combines a “village heart” with modern provision, offering a mixed‑infant programme that eases the transition from preschool to “big school”. The school’s ethos is rooted in Catholic values while actively welcoming children of all faiths and backgrounds, fostering a community built on kindness, diligence and inclusivity. Learning is approached holistically, with a strong partnership between parents, staff and the Board of Management to support each pupil’s academic and personal development. The campus boasts a wide range of high‑quality facilities: a school garden and tree‑lined green spaces, a well‑stocked library, state‑of‑the‑art playground equipment, a sports pitch, basketball court and a spacious hall for assemblies and indoor sport. Dedicated sensory and quiet rooms cater for additional‑needs learners, and digital technologies are integrated across the curriculum. A rich programme of extracurricular activities—including STEM, arts, language, physical education, social‑environmental education and a variety of after‑school clubs—ensures that learning extends beyond the classroom and encourages curiosity, creativity and wellbeing. Scoil Naomh Pádraig places particular emphasis on nurturing diverse abilities. Children with additional educational needs receive child‑led, supportive instruction in specialised settings such as the Fireflies class. The school’s mission is to develop self‑reliant, socially responsible individuals who value their own worth, respect others and contribute positively to society and the environment.

History

Scoil Naomh Pádraig (also known as St Patrick’s National School) was founded by the Mercy Order in 1966. The school’s origins are linked to Catherine Mc Auley, founder of the Mercy Order, whose belief that educating the young is the most productive work for society continues to inform the school’s ethos. Although the Mercy Order no longer serves as trustee, its values remain embedded in the school’s aims and daily practice.
