About
Aughacasla National School is a rural, co‑educational primary school serving children from junior infant to sixth class on the scenic Dingle Peninsula, approximately 15 miles west of Tralee. Set amidst mountains and Tralee Bay, the school provides a secure and welcoming environment where pupils are encouraged to develop academically, socially and emotionally. The teaching team is complemented by support staff and special‑needs assistants, ensuring that each child’s individual needs are met and that learning is inclusive for all. The curriculum is broad and balanced, integrating core subjects with a wide range of extra‑curricular activities such as football, athletics, soccer, gymnastics, concerts and outings. As a recognised “Green School”, pupils regularly engage with environmental projects that foster stewardship of the local landscape. The school’s ethos centres on respect, knowledge and responsibility, promoting a strong sense of community and belonging. Learning is further enriched through thematic projects like “Learning Through Play”, which link classroom topics to real‑world careers and experiences.
History
The school was originally established in 1896. In 2000 it relocated to a new purpose‑built building situated behind the historic original schoolhouse, continuing its long tradition of primary education on the Dingle Peninsula.
