About
Aughacasla National School is a rural co‑educational primary school serving children from junior infant to sixth class on the scenic Dingle Peninsula, 15 miles west of Tralee. Set amidst mountains and Tralee Bay, the school provides a secure, caring environment where pupils are encouraged to develop academically, socially and emotionally. The curriculum is broad and balanced, integrating core subjects with a strong emphasis on outdoor learning, environmental stewardship as a designated ‘Green School’, and the promotion of the Irish language as part of the school’s cultural heritage. The school’s ethos is rooted in the Catholic tradition and a commitment to whole‑person formation. It fosters respect, knowledge and responsibility, while encouraging personal freedom, equality and justice. A wide range of extra‑curricular activities—including football, athletics, gymnastics, music, and community projects—support the development of confidence, teamwork and creativity. Dedicated teaching and support staff, together with special‑needs assistants, ensure that each child’s individual needs are met, creating a nurturing atmosphere where every learner can achieve their full potential.
History
The school was established in 1896 and originally operated from an older building on the R560. In 2000 the school moved into a new purpose‑built facility located behind the historic premises, continuing its long tradition of serving the local community.
