About
Ashbourne Educate Together National School is a co‑educational, equality‑based primary school situated on the Ashbourne Education Campus beside the Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA club. The school serves a vibrant community of over 400 children, offering 16 mainstream classrooms and two dedicated special‑needs classes (Evergreen). Under the patronage of Educate Together, the school follows a child‑centred, democratic ethos that promotes inclusive learning, respect for diversity and active participation from pupils, parents and staff alike. The learning environment is designed to foster both academic achievement and personal development. Innovative teaching methodologies are employed across all year groups from Junior Infants to 6th class, with a two‑class structure for each level. The curriculum incorporates the “Learn Together” Ethical Education programme, encouraging critical thinking, global citizenship and an understanding of human rights, equality and environmental stewardship. Student‑led committees such as the Student Council, Green Schools, Active Schools and Amber Flag further embed democratic practice and community engagement within everyday school life.
History
Ashbourne Educate Together opened its doors in September 2012 in the Ashbourne Parish centre with just two teachers. The school subsequently moved to prefabricated premises beside the Ashbourne Community Centre, expanding to a two‑stream school up to 2nd class. In October 2016 the school relocated to a purpose‑built building in Killegland, now providing two classes for every year group from Junior Infants to 6th class, together with two special‑needs classes (Evergreen). The school marked its 10‑year anniversary in the 2022/23 academic year.
