About
C.B.S. Edmund Rice Secondary School is a Catholic voluntary secondary school situated in Carrick on Suir and operates under the trusteeship of The Edmund Rice Schools Trust. The school delivers a broad, balanced curriculum that blends academic rigour with a strong emphasis on personal and social development. Its educational philosophy is centred on the motto “Learn together, succeed together, in a respectful environment”, encouraging collaboration, mutual respect and a caring community where every pupil is valued. The campus comprises a purpose‑built facility erected in 1978 and expanded in 1994, providing modern classrooms, specialist laboratories, and dedicated spaces for sport and the arts. A wide range of extra‑curricular and co‑curricular programmes—including student leadership, a vibrant sporting tradition, and various clubs—are available to support the holistic development of each student and to foster teamwork, creativity and entrepreneurial spirit.
History
Founded in 1805, Edmund Rice Secondary School was the second Christian Brothers School established in Ireland, created to provide a Catholic education for boys from Carrick on Suir and the surrounding hinterland of Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny. The present school building was constructed in 1978 and later extended in 1994 to accommodate an expanding curriculum and student body, continuing a legacy of over two centuries of service to the community.
