About

Presentation Secondary School, Clonmel is an all‑girls voluntary Catholic secondary school operating under the CEIST (Catholic Education, an Irish Schools Trust) trusteeship. The school’s ethos is centred on providing a holistic Catholic education within a caring, inclusive environment that promotes spiritual, personal and academic development. A broad and stimulating curriculum is offered, encompassing the Junior Cycle, Transition Year, Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) and a dedicated ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) centre, supported by robust guidance and pastoral care services. The campus combines modern facilities with a respect for tradition. The main school building, constructed in 1980 and fully refurbished between 2007‑2009, houses contemporary classrooms and specialist rooms. The Nagle Hall, added in 1985, provides a well‑equipped gymnasium for sport and physical education. Additional resources support a vibrant student life, including a student council, media team, a range of sports clubs, arts programmes, an annual school show, and environmental initiatives such as the Green Team. Comprehensive whole‑school policies underpin a safe, respectful and forward‑looking learning community.

History

In 1809 the Very Rev Thomas Flannery invited the Presentation Sisters from Waterford to establish a house in Clonmel. Mother Mary Joseph Sullivan, Mother Mary Peter Ronan and Sister Magadalen Power arrived on 2 October 1813, and the first school opened on 6 January 1814 beside St Mary’s Church in Irishtown, enrolling 500 children that year. The present convent site was purchased in 1829 and the Sisters moved there on 12 June 1829; over the following 150 years the secondary school evolved from the original primary school. The current main building was erected in 1980, refurbished from 2007‑2009, and the Nagle Hall gymnasium was added in 1985, reflecting the school’s ongoing commitment to quality education in a caring environment.
