About

Thomond Community College is a multi‑denominational, co‑educational post‑primary institution situated in Moylish Park, Limerick. Established in September 2016 under the trusteeship of the Limerick and Clare Education & Training Board, the college was created through the amalgamation of the historic Salesian Secondary School (founded 1955) and St Nessan’s Community College (founded 1978). The school’s ethos centres on an inclusive, collaborative learning environment that celebrates diversity, encourages personal growth and prepares students for the evolving demands of both Irish and global economies. The curriculum is designed in partnership with local third‑level institutions and national and international businesses, ensuring that academic programmes are aligned with emerging industry skills and future‑focused career pathways. A broad range of extra‑curricular activities—including craft clubs, sports trips, and wellbeing workshops—complement the academic offering, fostering well‑rounded development. Thomond Community College provides modern facilities to support this vision, with dedicated spaces for science, technology, arts, and sport, as well as a library and specialised learning resources. These environments are intended to nurture curiosity, creativity and critical thinking, enabling each student to achieve their full potential within a supportive and joyful school community.

History

Thomond Community College opened in September 2016 as a new, multi‑denominational, co‑educational school under the Limerick and Clare Education & Training Board. It resulted from the amalgamation of the Salesian Secondary School (established 1955) and St Nessan’s Community College (established 1978). The college was created to provide an innovative and collaborative educational experience for the Limerick and Clare community, building on the legacies of its predecessor institutions.
