About

Scoil Mhuire Community School is a mixed secondary school serving the town of Clane and its surrounding rural community. It operates as a community school under the governance of a Board of Management and follows the Department of Education curriculum, offering a broad range of academic subjects from Junior Cycle through Senior Cycle, as well as a well‑structured Transition Year programme. The school places equal emphasis on academic rigour and the development of personal skills, promoting the “three Ts” of thinking, teamwork and technology alongside the “three Cs” of care, courtesy and consideration. Beyond the classroom, Scoil Mhuire provides an extensive programme of extra‑curricular activities, including sport, drama, debating, music, science clubs, foreign travel and charitable fundraising. A notable feature is its successful Adult Education programme, which delivers lifelong learning opportunities to the wider community. The school’s facilities support both curricular and extracurricular pursuits, with dedicated spaces for sports, performing arts and technology‑enhanced learning, fostering a well‑rounded education for all students.

History

Secondary education was introduced to Clane in 1963 when the Presentation Sisters established Scoil Mhuire in the convent building beside the village church to meet the educational needs of local girls. The first boys were admitted in 1967, and as enrolment grew, additional premises and prefabricated units were used along the Prosperous Road. Following extensive fundraising, a new purpose‑built school opened in 1983, at which point the institution transitioned from a conventional secondary school to a community school administered by a Board of Management.
