About

Moyne Community School is a multi‑denominational, co‑educational community school that delivers a holistic education rooted in Christian values and the traditions of its founding institutions. The school’s mission is to enable every pupil to develop their full potential through a balanced formal and informal curriculum, delivered in a friendly, safe and caring environment. A broad range of subjects is offered from Junior Cycle through Leaving Certificate, including specialist streams such as Construction Studies, Engineering, and a well‑resourced science programme. The campus boasts first‑class modern facilities: three dedicated science laboratories, separate engineering and metal‑work rooms, woodwork and construction studies workshops, two computer suites, home economics kitchens, an art studio, and a purpose‑built oratory. Sporting provision includes a well‑equipped gymnasium, ten acres of fields covering soccer, Gaelic games, rugby and a large tarmac area for football or basketball, plus external recreation spaces. Comprehensive pastoral care is provided through a mentoring programme for first‑years, a chaplaincy service, and a robust Special Educational Needs provision featuring small‑group tuition, team‑teaching and diagnostic assessment. Regular communication with parents and clear, fair disciplinary procedures underpin the school’s supportive community ethos.

History

Moyne Community School was founded in 1973, becoming one of the first community schools in Ireland when the Latin School in Moyne and Ballinamuck Vocational School closed. The new school inherited the traditions of both predecessor institutions, and its present building was opened in 1974.
