About
Athleague National School is a co‑educational primary school situated in the village of Athleague, County Roscommon. The school provides a full‑time curriculum for children from Junior Infants through to Sixth Class, with the day beginning at 9.00 am and finishing at 1.40 pm for the junior classes and 2.40 pm for the senior classes. A short lunch break runs from 12.40 pm to 1.00 pm, and the timetable includes dedicated periods for physical education, Gaelic games and environmental education, reflecting the school’s strong community and cultural heritage. The school’s ethos is rooted in a Catholic tradition, symbolised by the cross and Bible on the school crest, while the arched bridge motif celebrates the local six‑arch bridge over the River Suck. Facilities support outdoor learning, with a biodiversity kit that includes insect hotels, butterfly houses, a wild‑bird feeding station and wildlife signage. Uniform is compulsory, promoting pride and consistency, and a tracksuit is worn for PE and sporting activities. Communication with families is regular through written notices, occasional text messages and parent‑teacher meetings, and all school policies are available on request.
