About

Ballintubber National School is a rural primary school situated in the tranquil countryside of Ballintubber, County Mayo, just 14 km from Castlebar and close to the historic Ballintubber Abbey. The school provides a full primary curriculum from Junior Infants through to 6th Class, complemented by an on‑site preschool and after‑school care programme that eases the transition for younger children and supports families with extended hours. Facilities have been enhanced through a 2021 grant under the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan, which funded interactive whiteboards and related technology to bridge the digital divide and enrich classroom learning. The school places a strong emphasis on partnership between parents, teachers and the wider community, fostering an environment where each child can develop morally, spiritually and academically. A dedicated special education team, including a special education teacher and several support assistants, ensures inclusive provision for learners with additional needs. Extracurricular activities such as community visits, quizzes and seasonal events are integral to the school’s holistic approach, encouraging confidence, self‑esteem and a love of learning beyond the classroom.
