About

Ballymacarbry National School is a co‑educational, Catholic primary school serving a vibrant rural community. The school provides a well‑ordered, caring and secure environment that nurtures the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural development of each pupil. While its ethos is rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, the school recognises and respects the beliefs of families of other faiths. A strong emphasis is placed on fostering self‑esteem, respect for people and property, responsibility and gender equity, with programmes that encourage both professional growth for staff and active parental involvement through a Parents’ Association and regular home‑school contact. The school currently educates 189 pupils and is staffed by a senior leadership team, eight mainstream teachers, three special‑education teachers and dedicated support personnel, including special‑needs assistants, a caretaker and a pre‑ and post‑school supervisor. Facilities have expanded in three phases: the original building (1972), a western extension (1995) and a southern extension (2015). Additional services include a Breakfast Club and After‑School Service, operating since September 2022, to support families beyond the classroom day.

History

Ballymacarbry National School was founded in 1972 and has been providing primary education for over five decades. The school’s physical plant grew with a western extension in 1995 and a further southern extension in 2015, reflecting its expanding role in the community. Throughout its history the school has maintained a commitment to its Catholic ethos while embracing inclusivity and continuous development.
