About
Barryroe National School is a rural, co‑educational primary school situated in Barryroe, a short walk from the village of Courtmacsherry and nearby beaches. Established in 1972 through the amalgamation of three local schools, it now serves a community of around 182 pupils. The school promotes a learner‑centred environment where each child is treated as an individual and active learning, creativity and inquiry are at the heart of everyday practice. The school’s facilities support a broad and inclusive curriculum. A large indoor sports hall, a playing pitch, junior and senior tarmac yards, an obstacle course and a sizeable ship‑shaped playscape provide ample space for physical activity. Two sensory rooms, a school garden and plans for a new sensory garden enhance provision for pupils with special educational needs, while a newly opened car‑park (2026) improves accessibility. The school also offers a dedicated DLD/SSD class and a range of specialist support staff. Rooted in a Catholic ethos that recognises all faiths, the school’s mission is to nurture the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural development of its pupils. It actively promotes inclusivity, gender equity and a strong emphasis on the Irish language, encouraging parental involvement and continuous professional development for staff.
