Bellurgan National School is a co‑educational primary school situated on the scenic Cooley Peninsula in the Parish of Lordship and Ballymascanlon, Dundalk, County Louth. The school operates from a purpose‑built premises opened in 1980 and currently employs ten teachers who educate a roll of approximately 112 pupils. The school provides five mainstream classes together with two dedicated special classes for children on the autism spectrum, reflecting its commitment to inclusive education. The ethos of the school is firmly rooted in a child‑centred Catholic tradition, with a strong emphasis on partnership between parents, staff and the wider community. The learning environment is designed to be caring, secure and stimulating, encouraging pupils to develop intellectually, spiritually, physically, morally and culturally. A broad and balanced curriculum aims to foster a love of learning, equip children with the skills to learn independently and inspire them to achieve their best work while gaining an appreciation of Irish heritage and the wider world.
History
Bellurgan National School moved to its present location and building in 1980. Since then it has grown to become a ten‑teacher school serving over one hundred pupils, with the addition of specialised autism classes alongside its mainstream provision.
