About

Burrow School is a co‑educational primary school under Church of Ireland patronage, situated in Sutton, Dublin 13. It provides education for approximately 220 pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, catering for children aged four to thirteen. The school follows the Irish national curriculum, emphasising a balanced approach that nurtures academic achievement, personal development and community values within a supportive, inclusive environment. The campus comprises eight modern classrooms and the historic Burrow Hall, which serves as a versatile space for physical education, assemblies, after‑school clubs, meetings and school elections. Continuous investment in facilities, including a 1994 refurbishment and ongoing enhancements by the Board of Management, ensures a safe and stimulating learning setting. Strong partnerships with the Parent Association and the Department of Education & Skills further enrich the educational experience, offering a range of extracurricular activities and resources such as educational apps and dedicated parent support services.

History

The original parish school on the site dates to before 1807, funded by a £15 grant from the Association for the Promotion of Christian Knowledge and taught by a single teacher. After falling into disrepair, a second school was erected in 1831 under a lease between the Third Earl of Howth and the Rector of Howth. A third building, now known as Burrow Hall, was constructed by Richard Campbell and opened in 1881. Rapid population growth in the 1960s prompted the construction of a new school building, officially opened on 3 January 1969 by the Minister for Education and blessed by the Archbishop of Dublin. An extension added an assembly room and extra classroom in 1972, bringing enrolment to 191 pupils. The school was refurbished in 1994 and continues to evolve while retaining its historic roots.
