About

Cabinteely Community School is a co‑educational community secondary school situated on Johnstown Road, Dublin 18. Established in 1975, the school welcomes students of all ethnicities, abilities, genders and faith traditions, fostering an inclusive environment where every learner can thrive. The ethos is built around the core values of Care, Courage and Support, guiding policies and everyday practice to promote wellbeing alongside academic, spiritual and creative development. The campus offers extensive facilities for both learning and sport, including a main school building opened in the late 1970s, a purpose‑built sports hall (operational since 1982), full‑size and smaller astroturf football pitches, and dedicated ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) classes. Ongoing development includes a new permanent Merici Centre and additional classrooms, reflecting the school’s commitment to modern, adaptable learning spaces. A strong emphasis on innovation in learning, alongside a vibrant extracurricular programme, ensures students receive a well‑rounded education that prepares them for further study and life beyond school.

History

In 1962 the Ursuline Sisters from Waterford purchased Kilbogget House and its surrounding lands in Cabinteely. The school opened on 4 September 1963 as *Our Lady of the Angels*, a secondary day school and private primary school for girls. Over the following years the convent buildings (E and F) and prefabricated G‑buildings were expanded, and a new secondary school building was added in 1970. On 1 August 1975 a Board of Management assumed control, and the institution became Cabinteely Community School under Principal Liam Ryder. The main school building was inaugurated in 1978‑79 and the sports hall opened in September 1982. After the Ursuline Junior School closed in June 1984, its facilities, including St Angela’s Hall, were acquired by the Department of Education & Skills for the community school. As the school approaches its 50th anniversary, plans are underway for a new permanent Merici Centre and further classroom extensions.
