About

Canal Way Educate Together National School is a co‑educational, democratic primary school situated on Basin Lane in Dublin 8, just a short walk from the Fatima Luas stop. As a state‑run school under the Educate Together patronage, it delivers the full Irish national curriculum through the Learn Together Curriculum, an equality‑based programme that places the child’s voice, well‑being and happiness at the centre of learning. The school benefits from high‑speed broadband connectivity and a vibrant, city‑centre location, while also offering a tranquil garden oasis where pupils can engage in planting, harvesting and outdoor exploration. The school community is characterised by strong parental involvement, a diverse and inclusive ethos, and a commitment to active, enjoyable learning. Facilities support a wide range of interests, from performing arts and sport to science and big‑thinking projects, and the school has earned recognitions such as the Green Schools Flag, Active Schools Flag, Science and Maths Excellence Awards and the Young Philosophers Awards. These features combine to create a welcoming environment where children are encouraged to explore their full potential in a safe and supportive setting.

History

Canal Way Educate Together was founded by a group of parents in Dublin 8; the group formed in 2010 and, after three years of campaigning, the school was officially recognised in January 2013. It opened in temporary accommodation on Harcourt Terrace with two teachers and thirty‑eight children in September 2013, then moved to its current premises in 2014 – the first building transferred from a religious body to the state for multi‑denominational education. The school has grown into a two‑stream institution with approximately 381 pupils, 30 staff members and classes up to sixth class, and has achieved accreditations including the Green Schools Flag, Active Schools Flag, Science and Maths Excellence Annual Awards and the Young Philosophers Awards.
