About
Canovee Mixed National School is a co‑educational Catholic primary school under the patronage of the Bishop of Cork and Ross. Working in partnership with the Board of Management, parents and the local parish, the school delivers a comprehensive Religious Education programme based on the ‘Grow in Love’ framework, welcoming pupils of all faith traditions. The ethos centres on nurturing each child’s spiritual, moral and academic development, encouraging prayer, liturgical participation and a commitment to social justice, while fostering an inclusive and respectful community. The school occupies a modern building that serves 99 families and is equipped with up‑to‑date facilities to support a broad curriculum. A dedicated and experienced staff team implements current best‑practice teaching methods, reinforced by a strong Parents’ Association and Board of Management. Extra‑curricular provisions include before‑ and after‑school childcare provided by Ray of Sunshine, daily hot lunches funded by the Department of Social Protection, and a uniform that promotes a sense of belonging. The daily timetable runs from 09:20 am to 3:00 pm, with a short morning break and a lunch period, ensuring a balanced routine for junior and senior infants alike.
History
Canovee National School first opened its doors to the children of Canovee over 150 years ago. Since those early years the school has experienced considerable growth and development, culminating in the present building that accommodates the needs of its 99 families.
