About

St Colman’s National School, Cappagh is a mixed‑gender primary school situated in the rural community of Cappagh, Croghan, near Tullamore in County Offaly. The school serves the surrounding villages of Ballycommon and Kilclonfert and aims to provide a warm, welcoming and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential. Emphasis is placed on a balanced curriculum that promotes academic excellence alongside the development of social skills, respect, care and community spirit. The school operates from a modern facility that includes five mainstream classrooms and a range of specialised spaces designed to enrich the learning experience. Over the years the school has added extensions and new programmes to support a well‑rounded education, fostering both intellectual growth and personal development. Its ethos is rooted in the values of respect, inclusivity and a strong sense of belonging, reflecting its long‑standing role within the local parish of Daingean and the wider Offaly community.

History

St Colman’s National School (also known as Cappagh N.S.) opened in 1975, replacing the former Kilmurry and Kilclonfert National Schools. The two original school premises now function as community centres. Since its establishment the school has expanded its facilities, adding new extensions and programmes while maintaining its core values of respect, care and inclusivity. It continues to play an integral role in the communities of Ballycommon, Kilclonfert and the parish of Daingean.
