About

Carrignafoy Community College is a state‑funded, co‑educational, multi‑denominational community college situated in Carrignafoy, Cobh, under the patronage of the Cork Education and Training Board. The school is built on a foundation of five core values – Excellence in Education, Care, Equality, Community and Respect – which shape a welcoming environment where every pupil is encouraged to achieve personal excellence. The college delivers a comprehensive curriculum across the Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle, offering the traditional Leaving Certificate, the Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme and the Leaving Certificate Applied, together with optional Transition Year and Level 1/Level 2 Learning Programmes. Emphasis is placed on both academic rigour and the development of intellectual, physical and social skills. Strong links with local organisations enrich the student experience, while dedicated support services such as the School Completion Programme and Home‑School Liaison provide additional guidance. The campus, opened in 1979 and slated for future expansion, houses modern classrooms and specialist facilities designed to support a wide range of subjects and extracurricular activities.

History

Carrignafoy Community College opened on its present site in 1979, continuing a local tradition of education that began in 1905. In 1930 the Cobh Technical Instruction Committee merged with the County Cork Vocational Education Committee, leading to progressive growth in student numbers and provision. The establishment of the current building marked a significant milestone, and the college now anticipates further expansion to accommodate its expanding curriculum and community role.
