About
Casa Caterina is a small, Catholic special school situated on the Dominican campus in Cabra, North Dublin. Catering for children aged 4 to 12 with severe emotional and behavioural difficulties (SEBD) or autism, the school provides a holistic learning environment for up to 36 pupils. Six small classes operate with a low pupil‑teacher ratio of 6:1, ensuring personalised support for each child’s educational, emotional and spiritual development. The premises are housed in a historic building surrounded by mature grounds, offering extensive outdoor space including a playground, a grass area with football goals, a sensory garden and easy access to nearby parks such as Tolka Park, the Royal Canal and John Paul II Park for nature walks and community‑based activities. The school’s facilities are designed to stimulate learning and wellbeing. Inside, there are several sensory areas and a dedicated nurture room where trained staff deliver short‑term, focused interventions to address non‑cognitive barriers to learning. Extracurricular provision is strong, with regular collaborations with local sports clubs for football and swimming coaching, as well as cooking sessions that involve pupils in planning, shopping and preparing meals together. These varied experiences aim to foster a sense of belonging, optimism and confidence in each child’s future potential.
