About
Castleplunkett National School is a Catholic, co‑educational primary school situated in the rural village of Castleplunkett, County Roscommon, approximately 11 km east of Castlerea and 7 km west of Tulsk. The school operates under the patronage of the Bishop of Elphin and provides education for children in two mainstream classrooms supported by a Special Educational Needs (SET) teacher. Its ethos centres on nurturing each child’s emotional, social and academic development, fostering a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that reflects the close‑knit community of the surrounding countryside. The school places a strong emphasis on holistic learning, integrating the national curriculum with values‑based education and a commitment to digital inclusion. In 2021 the school received a grant under the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), funded by the European Union’s NextGenerationEU programme, to address the digital divide and support learners at risk of educational disadvantage. This initiative underpins the school’s focus on modernising resources, enhancing ICT provision and ensuring that all pupils have equitable access to learning opportunities.
