About

Christ the King Junior Girls’ School is a small, co‑educational‑friendly junior school for girls aged four to seven years, situated on Annaly Road in Cabra, Dublin 7. The school provides a nurturing environment with a low pupil‑to‑teacher ratio, supported by a teaching principal, class teachers and a dedicated school secretary and caretaker. The curriculum is complemented by a range of enrichment activities such as after‑school clubs, Literacy Lift‑Off, Ready Set Go Maths, weekly assemblies and regular school trips, fostering both academic and personal development. The learning environment is modern and well‑resourced. All five classrooms are spacious, equipped with interactive whiteboards and tablet devices, and a dedicated computer room offers regular sessions using educational software that develops literacy, numeracy and scientific skills. A large, secure playground is shared with the senior girls’ school, providing ample space for outdoor play. The school garden, designed in 2000, serves as a hands‑on science resource where children explore trees, plants and insects. Free, nutritionally balanced lunches are provided, with menus allowing parents to select sandwiches, fruit and a healthy snack. As a DEIS school, Christ the King participates in the School Completion Programme, with the Cabra SCP project offering additional project work and summer sport camps.

History

The school was built in 1934 and has been serving the Cabra community ever since. Its central location close to Dublin city centre gives easy access to local amenities such as Cabra Library, Phoenix Park, Dublin Zoo, the Ark Children’s Cultural Centre and the Hugh Lane Municipal Gallery. In 2000 the school garden was designed by RTE’s Duncan Stewart, enhancing the school’s outdoor learning facilities.
