About
Church Street National School is a co‑educational primary school under the management of the Church of Ireland. It provides a well‑ordered, caring and secure environment that seeks to meet the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural needs of its pupils. While the school embraces a Church of Ireland ethos, it recognises and respects pupils of all other religious denominations. The ethos promotes gender equity, encourages parental involvement through regular home‑school contact, and supports the professional and personal development of staff via ongoing development programmes. The school motto, “You too can make a difference”, reflects its commitment to fostering self‑esteem, responsibility and respect for people and property, with a modest effort to incorporate the Irish language into daily life. The school places a strong emphasis on experiential learning and environmental stewardship. Recent initiatives include achieving a seventh Green Flag for Global Citizenship and Energy, maintaining an outdoor classroom and vegetable garden, and organising field trips such as a visit to the Grouslodge Windfarm. A vibrant programme of arts, crafts, science investigations and sports activities—ranging from Christmas craft days to GAA coaching workshops—enhances the curriculum and encourages pupils to engage with their community and the natural world.
History
The school recently adopted the name Church Street National School following a community discussion and vote. Over recent months the school has embarked on a phased building transformation, with the first painting phase nearing completion and plans for further work pending suitable weather.
