About
Clonown National School is a vibrant primary school serving a close‑knit community of around 30 pupils. The school places a strong emphasis on holistic development, integrating academic learning with environmental stewardship, digital literacy and cultural enrichment. As a committed Green School holding thirteen Green Flags and participating in the Climate Ambassadors Project, sustainability is woven into everyday practice, from garden activities to eco‑friendly policies. The curriculum is enriched with specialist programmes such as Scratch programming during a dedicated seven‑week computer class, the IXL online maths platform and the Accelerated Reader scheme, all accessed via school‑provided Chromebooks. Pupils also benefit from a robust music programme, receiving individual instruments through the Music Generation initiative and learning traditional Irish instruments alongside contemporary ones. A varied extracurricular roster includes science competitions (Science Blast, BT Young Scientist), the Junior Entrepreneur Programme, regular physical education sessions, Gaelic coaching and frequent educational outings to local cultural venues. Daily hot school lunches are supplied free of charge, allowing children to choose their meals and fostering a supportive, inclusive atmosphere.
