About
Cloughduv National School is a vibrant, co‑educational primary school situated in the parish of Kilmurry, Mid Cork, just off the N22. The state‑funded school operates under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Cork and Ross and is managed by an active Board of Management. With an enrolment of around 141 pupils, the school provides a warm, inclusive environment supported by a dedicated team of teaching and support staff, as well as administrative and caretaking personnel. The campus occupies a spacious two‑acre site comprising two modern buildings, a purpose‑built hall with stage, a multi‑purpose room for dance, drama and motor‑skills activities, an Aistear room for early‑years play‑based learning, and a well‑equipped computer suite. Every classroom features a teacher’s laptop, overhead projector, interactive whiteboard and Soundfield system, while high‑speed broadband and photovoltaic panels enhance the learning environment. Outdoor facilities include hard‑surface play areas, a ball court, a climbing wall, a grass field and a vegetable garden, providing ample opportunities for scientific enquiry, physical education and creative play. The school follows the Primary School Curriculum as set by the Department of Education, delivering eleven subject areas including English, Gaeilge, Mathematics, SESE, Visual Arts, Music, Drama, PE and SPHE, with religion taught in all classes. A strong emphasis is placed on child voice, creative education, sport, and the development of gross and fine motor skills through a structured programme and specialised equipment.
History
Cloughduv National School was originally constructed in 1995. A major extension, adding four classrooms, two learning‑support rooms and a multi‑purpose resource room, was completed in November 2014, expanding the school’s capacity and facilities.
