About
Coláiste Éanna C.B.S. is a voluntary Catholic secondary school for boys located in Ballyroan, Dublin 16. Under the trusteeship of the Edmund Rice Schools Trust, the school delivers a broad curriculum that balances academic rigour with the spiritual and social ethos of the Christian Brothers tradition. Pupils benefit from a well‑equipped campus that includes a modern sports hall, a recent school extension, and a dedicated prayer room, supporting both scholastic and extracurricular pursuits such as a robust Transition Year programme, a wide range of clubs and sports, and co‑curricular activities. With a staff of 47 teachers serving over 620 students, the school aims to develop the full range of human talents, preparing young men for further education, professional life and active citizenship. The educational philosophy is rooted in the vision of Blessed Edmund Rice, emphasising compassion, liberation from social disadvantage and the nurturing of moral character. This mission informs the school’s commitment to academic excellence, athletic prowess and community involvement, fostering an environment where students can thrive academically, spiritually and personally while contributing positively to Irish society.
History
Coláiste Éanna was founded by the Christian Brothers in 1967 to serve Ballyroan and neighbouring parishes. The school opened on 8 September 1967 with 27 first‑year pupils, initially operating from two classrooms. Brother John Mahady served as the first teacher and principal, teaching a wide range of subjects. A lay principal was appointed in 1986 and the school has since been governed by a Board of Management, with the Christian Brothers remaining as trustees. Significant developments include the opening of a new sports hall and school extension in June 2007 and the blessing of a prayer room later that year. Today the school accommodates over 620 students and continues to build on its reputation for academic and athletic achievement.
