About
Coláiste Eoghain is an Irish‑medium secondary school situated in Tullyarvan Mill, Buncrana, County Donegal. The school’s mission is to create a positive learning environment that delivers a comprehensive education of the highest standard while fostering the personal and social development of every pupil. By delivering the curriculum through Irish, the college instils interest, pride and confidence in the language and equips students with the cognitive and cultural benefits of bilingualism, including enhanced academic performance and greater future employment opportunities. The college offers a full range of Junior and Leaving Certificate subjects supported by small class sizes, dedicated form teachers and year heads, and robust pastoral care. Facilities include dedicated rooms for Home Economics, Metalwork and Science, a modern computer and IT suite, and a well‑equipped canteen. Classrooms are fitted with data projectors, Smart Boards and Chromebooks, and the school benefits from 100 Mbps broadband throughout. A wide variety of extra‑curricular activities, music and sport resources further enrich the student experience, preparing learners for life beyond secondary education.
History
The founding committee for Coláiste Eoghain was established in 2006, and the school received approval from the Department of Education & Skills in 2007. It opened its doors in September 2007 with ten pupils and six teachers. In 2022 the college celebrated its 15‑year anniversary. Plans are underway for a new three‑school campus, comprising Gaelscoil Bhun Cranncha, Coláiste Eoghain and Crana College, slated for opening in the 2026‑2027 academic year.
