About
Coldwood National School is a Catholic primary school under the patronage of the Archbishop of Tuam, welcoming children of all religious and non‑religious backgrounds. The school’s ethos centres on recognising each child’s individual strengths and talents, fostering a supportive environment where well‑being and academic progress are equally prioritised. Learning is delivered through a blend of traditional classroom teaching and a wide‑range of extracurricular activities, including art, music, athletics, gymnastics, Irish dancing, Zumba, GAA, rugby, cycling, swimming, the Active Schools project, the Blast Art Project, choir, concerts, STEM initiatives and the Accelerated Reader programme. The campus boasts extensive facilities that enhance experiential learning: a large polytunnel for environmental studies, Lego Spike and Bluebot programmable robots for coding and robotics, modern Google Chromebooks, extensive playing pitches, a walking track and a well‑stocked library. A breakfast club and after‑school provision run by Coldwood Montessori are situated on the grounds, providing additional support for younger children. The school day runs from 9.20 am to 3.00 pm, with structured breaks and a healthy lunches policy that promotes fruit, whole‑meal bread and water, reinforcing the school’s commitment to holistic development.
