About
Coolick National School is a vibrant co‑educational primary school situated in the heart of Kilcummin parish, just a ten‑minute drive from Killarney town. The school provides a broad, child‑centred curriculum that balances academic learning with spiritual, moral and creative development. A strong emphasis is placed on inclusive education, with dedicated special‑education provision and a newly added SEN base class unit, ensuring that pupils of all abilities are supported in a nurturing environment. The campus boasts extensive facilities, including a large astro‑turf pitch, a basketball court, and a sheltered outdoor play area equipped with trikes, scooters and hoops. The on‑site preschool, operating under the Bluebells Before and After School Service, follows the Aistear framework and offers both ECCE (free pre‑school) and private sessions for children aged 2 ½ to 5 ½ years. Strong parental involvement, a lively Parents Association and a commitment to community partnership further enrich the school life, fostering a sense of unity captured in the motto “Ni neart go chur le chéile” (there is no strength without unity).
History
Coolick National School is the oldest of the three schools in the Kilcummin parish and the only one that has endured structurally over the decades, serving as a focal point for the local community.
