About

Cornamaddy Community National School is a multi‑denominational primary school situated on the Athlone side of the M6 Dublin/Galway motorway, close to the Department of Education and Skills, Ericsson, Athlone Education Centre, Athlone Institute of Technology and Garrycastle GAA Club. The school provides a welcoming, inclusive environment for children aged 4‑12, offering a balanced curriculum that blends traditional Irish primary education with modern approaches to literacy, numeracy, digital learning and wellbeing. Facilities include well‑equipped classrooms, a dedicated junior infant space, a kitchen that supplies hot meals to all pupils, and access to after‑school programmes such as Kids Inc, supporting extended learning and recreation. The school places a strong emphasis on community partnership and parental involvement, reflected in regular enrolment evenings, e‑payment options for school fees, and a comprehensive suite of policies covering child safeguarding, health and safety, inclusion and digital use. Its location near higher‑education institutions and local businesses provides opportunities for enrichment activities and collaborative projects, reinforcing its role as a vibrant educational hub in the Cornamaddy area.

History

On 30 August 2023 Cornamaddy Community National School transitioned to a multi‑denominational Community National School under the governance of the Leitrim‑Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB), continuing a long history of primary education in the Cornamaddy community.
