About

Dalystown National School is a vibrant, co‑educational primary school situated in the heart of Dalystown, Mullingar, County Westmeath. Rooted in a Catholic ethos, the school delivers the Irish Primary School Curriculum to children from Junior Infants through to Sixth Class, fostering a broad and balanced education that encourages curiosity, respect and community spirit. Small class sizes enable teachers to give personalised attention, supporting each pupil’s academic, social and emotional development in a safe and welcoming environment. The school’s modern facilities were completed in Easter 2006 and officially opened on 15 December 2006. The campus comprises four dedicated classrooms and an additional GP room currently used for teaching, all of which are wheelchair‑accessible and fully alarmed. The premises are regularly shared with local community groups, reinforcing the school’s role as a hub for the surrounding area. With a roll of just over one hundred pupils drawn from sixty‑four families, Dalystown National School offers a close‑knit community where children can thrive academically while enjoying a rich programme of creative and recreational activities.

History

Dalystown National School was originally built in 1902 to replace the former Kilbride school, which had been destroyed by fire at the turn of the century. The new school initially served the Meedin, Clonfad, Carrick, Cloneyheigue and Dalystown districts, opening its doors to 27 boys and 23 girls. Over the decades the school expanded its catchment area and modernised its facilities. A completely new building was completed in Easter 2006, featuring four classrooms, a GP room used for teaching, wheelchair access and a full alarm system. The new premises were officially opened on 15 December 2006, and the school now operates with a staff of five teachers and a roll of around 106 pupils (as of the 2017‑2018 academic year).
