About

Dangan National School is a Catholic, co‑educational primary school located in the parish of Kilmore, Carrick on Shannon, County Roscommon. The school provides a nurturing environment that balances hands‑on learning with a strong emphasis on curiosity, creativity and problem‑solving. Classrooms are modernised following extensions in 2011 and an additional classroom added in 2021, offering ample space for collaborative projects, team sports and extracurricular activities such as gymnastics and Green Schools initiatives. A dedicated learning support teacher and several Special Needs Assistants ensure that every child receives personalised assistance, fostering inclusive education for all learners. The school’s ethos is built around a set of comprehensive aims that address academic excellence, physical wellbeing, moral development, social skills, emotional health, spiritual awareness, aesthetic appreciation, cultural engagement, personal growth, cognitive development, and imaginative expression. Through student‑led councils, committee work and peer‑learning opportunities, pupils are encouraged to work together, develop leadership qualities and become active, responsible members of the community.

History

Dangan National School opened in 1948 as a Catholic co‑educational primary school. An extension adding two new classrooms was completed in 2011, and a further classroom was added in 2021 to accommodate growing enrolment.
