About

Donabate/Portrane Educate Together National School (DPETNS) is a child‑centred, co‑educational primary school that operates under the Educate Together patronage. The school’s ethos is built on equality, democracy and inclusivity, fostering a learning environment where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. A strong partnership between home and school underpins the approach, with parents, guardians and staff working collaboratively to support both academic achievement and the holistic development of pupils. The school offers a wide range of facilities designed to enhance learning and wellbeing. These include an outdoor classroom, a multi‑sensory room, a dedicated sensory garden, a well‑stocked library, and specialised spaces such as the Lights Room. Modern sports facilities and varied classroom environments provide ample opportunities for creative, social and sporting activities, complementing the rigorous curriculum. DPETNS aims to nurture relaxed yet engaged learners, instilling a lifelong love of learning while maintaining high academic standards.

History

DPETNS opened its doors on 2 September 2002 in the local Scout Den with an initial enrolment of 31 pupils. It was the 29th school to join the Educate Together network. Since its modest beginnings, the school has grown substantially and now educates over 425 children. Throughout its development the school has remained committed to its founding principles of equality, co‑education, child‑centred learning and democratic governance, continually expanding its facilities and programmes to meet the needs of its community.
