History

The origins of education in the Dromatariffe parish trace back to secret hedge schools in 1826, with a noted school at Dromagh serving 76 pupils. A temporary school operated from 1841‑1843 at Barrett’s Post Office. On 28 May 1843 a permanent two‑storey school opened 300 yards west of the present site, housing girls downstairs and boys upstairs. Following a serious fault identified in 1896, a new building was commissioned; construction began in 1901 and was completed in 1902 at a cost of £587.30, establishing the structure that forms the basis of today’s school.
