About
Dromclough National School is a small, rural, mixed‑gender primary school situated in the picturesque Mealagh Valley, West Cork, approximately eight kilometres from Bantry town centre. Catering for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, the school operates with a two‑teacher model complemented by a full‑time secretary/classroom assistant and a shared Special Education teacher who visits daily. This intimate setting enables the school to tailor learning experiences to the individual needs of each pupil, fostering a supportive, inclusive environment where wellbeing is prioritised. The educational approach balances the core curriculum prescribed by the Department of Education and Science with a strong emphasis on the arts, music, drama, science, nature, sport and information‑communication technology. Multi‑class arrangements encourage older pupils to mentor younger ones, promoting cooperation, independence and peer‑led learning. Outdoor and indoor spaces are used extensively for play and experiential activities, reinforcing the school’s commitment to a cheerful, caring atmosphere that nurtures intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural development.
