About
Drimoleague National School is a rural primary school situated in the heart of West Cork, between Skibbereen and Dunmanway, and operates under the patronage of the Catholic Bishop of Cork and Ross. The school offers a broad, balanced curriculum that includes English, Gaeilge, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Music, Art, Drama, Physical Education, Religion and S.P.H.E., complemented by a wide range of extra‑curricular programmes such as the National Children’s Choir, Green Schools, Active Schools, Amber Flag and Primary Science initiatives. Recent investment through the Department of Education’s School Broadband Programme and a 2021 grant has modernised the school’s IT infrastructure, providing high‑speed broadband and digital learning resources to bridge the digital divide for pupils at risk of educational disadvantage. The school caters for senior classes (3rd‑6th) and prides itself on a vibrant community of committed staff, diligent pupils and supportive parents. Teaching is informed by Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences, ensuring that each child’s individual learning style, talents and needs are recognised and nurtured. As a small rural institution, the school can offer personalised attention, drawing on local heritage and a strong ethos of respect, responsibility and well‑rounded development.
