About

Dún Dealgan National School is a small, co‑educational primary school situated in the heart of Dundalk, County Louth. Operating under the patronage of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and the Monaghan Presbytery, the school places Christian values at the centre of its ethos, integrating them throughout the curriculum and daily life. The school offers a broad and balanced programme of learning for children from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, with a strong emphasis on developing both academic skills and personal character. Modern information and communication technology (ICT) resources are embedded across subjects, supporting interactive and future‑focused teaching. In 2018 the school celebrated the opening of a new extension and the complete refurbishment of its original building, providing up‑to‑date classrooms, specialist areas and improved facilities for all pupils. These enhancements, together with a welcoming community atmosphere, enable the school to cater for a diverse range of traditions and cultures while maintaining its historic Christian foundation. The school’s commitment to a supportive, inclusive environment aims to prepare children for the challenges of the future while fostering a love of learning.

History

Dún Dealgan National School first opened its doors to pupils in 1893, sharing a historic site with the Dundalk Presbyterian Church. Over more than 125 years the school has continuously served the local community, welcoming children from many traditions and cultures. In 2018 a significant new extension was added and the original building was fully refurbished, modernising the facilities while preserving the school’s long‑standing heritage.
