About

Gaelscoil Longfoirt is an Irish‑medium primary school situated in Longford town, adjacent to the Slashers GAA Club. The school provides full‑time Irish language education for children aged 4‑12, with a current roll of approximately 160 pupils. Instruction and all school communication are conducted through Irish, fostering fluency and cultural pride. The curriculum follows the national primary framework while integrating Gaelic cultural activities, music, and sport, creating a vibrant bilingual environment. The teaching team comprises eight classroom teachers, four support teachers, and two special needs assistants, supported by a range of ancillary staff. Facilities include access to the nearby GAA club’s sports amenities, a dedicated school uniform programme, and specialised spaces for music, choir and art. The school’s ethos is rooted in Catholic tradition but welcomes families of all faiths, encouraging active parental and community involvement in school life. A strong emphasis is placed on creating a happy, inclusive atmosphere where pupils feel supported to develop academically, socially and culturally.
