Gaelscoil Longfoirt is an Irish‑medium primary school situated in Longford town, adjacent to the Slashers GAA Club. The school provides full‑time Irish language education for children aged 4‑12, with a current roll of approximately 160 pupils. Instruction and all school communication are conducted through Irish, fostering fluency and cultural pride. The curriculum follows the national primary framework while integrating Gaelic cultural activities, music, and sport, creating a vibrant bilingual environment. The teaching team comprises eight classroom teachers, four support teachers, and two special needs assistants, supported by a range of ancillary staff. Facilities include access to the nearby GAA club’s sports amenities, a dedicated school uniform programme, and specialised spaces for music, choir and art. The school’s ethos is rooted in Catholic tradition but welcomes families of all faiths, encouraging active parental and community involvement in school life. History
Gaelscoil Longfoirt opened its doors on 1 September 1998 with 22 children. Over more than two decades the school has expanded significantly and now educates around 160 pupils, maintaining its commitment to Irish‑medium primary education in County Longford.
