About

Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada is a vibrant, co‑educational primary school that delivers a full‑immersion Irish‑language curriculum from Naíonáin (Early Infants) through to Grade 6. The school follows a Catholic ethos while welcoming children of all faiths and none, and it operates two streams – a full‑Irish language stream and a Catholic stream – with Irish as the sole medium of instruction for all subjects except English. Learning is underpinned by a strong emphasis on community partnership, collaborative teaching, and the development of both academic and personal skills in a supportive, positive environment. The school’s facilities are designed to stimulate curiosity and active learning. Dedicated spaces include a sensory room, a theatre, an outdoor classroom, a well‑equipped garden, a forested play area and a calm outdoor zone with sensory play equipment. Modern technology, such as mobile devices, is used to enhance teaching and to manage data securely. These resources, together with a focus on values such as respect, kindness and inclusivity, create an energetic and attractive learning atmosphere that encourages pupils to thrive academically and socially.

History

Gaelscoil Eiscir Riada opened in mid‑September 2005 with two teachers and an initial roll of 26 pupils, operating from the CLG na Sáirséalaigh hall. In September 2006 the school moved to prefabricated classrooms on Bóthar an Ghrifín, and in May 2006 received permanent recognition from the Department of Education and Science. A purpose‑built, permanent building was completed in mid‑September 2012. Since then the school has expanded to provide two streams for each class from Naíonáin to Grade 6 and operates under the patronage of An Foras Pátrúnachta na Scoileanna Lán Ghaeilge.
