Glanmire Community College is a designated community college serving the greater Glanmire area of Cork. Established in 1997 under the joint trusteeship of the Cork Education and Training Board and the Diocese of Cork and Ross, the college provides second‑level education for over 875 pupils on a spacious twelve‑acre campus. The site is equipped with modern buildings and facilities that support a broad curriculum, including science, technology, arts and physical education, and offers a safe, caring and inclusive Christian ethos. The college’s vision is to be a happy, safe, caring and inclusive community that promotes quality teaching and learning in an environment of mutual respect. It places a strong emphasis on academic excellence while nurturing each pupil’s individual talents, aptitudes and interests. Cultural, spiritual and physical development are encouraged through a wide range of co‑curricular activities, and progression to third‑level education is a core value of the institution.
History
After more than twelve years of lobbying by local residents, Glanmire Community College opened its doors in 1997. It was established as a Designated Community College under the joint trusteeship of the Cork Education and Training Board and the Diocese of Cork and Ross, and has since grown to accommodate a pupil enrolment of over 875 students on its twelve‑acre campus.
