About
Granlahan Girls National School is a small, four‑teacher primary school situated in the most westerly corner of County Roscommon, midway between Ballyhaunis in Mayo and Casterea in Roscommon. The school caters for a mixed cohort of pupils through two mainstream classes, a dedicated Autism class and a Special Educational Needs (SET) class, reflecting a commitment to inclusive education. Its educational philosophy adopts a holistic view of learning, aiming to develop spiritual, moral, cognitive, emotional, imaginative, aesthetic, social and physical dimensions of each child, in line with its stated aims, vision and ethos. The campus boasts a range of high‑quality facilities that support both academic and extra‑curricular development. Pupils have access to a well‑maintained football pitch, a basketball court, a large playground with a marked games area, and a sensory‑rich environment that includes a dedicated Sensory Room and the newly opened Suaimhneas Room (September 2024) for children on the autism spectrum. A low pupil‑to‑teacher ratio enables personalised attention, while a varied programme of activities – from swimming and tennis to céilí dancing, traditional music lessons and sports competitions – enriches the school experience and promotes active citizenship and lifelong learning.
