About

Hartstown Community School is a co‑educational post‑primary community school serving the Hartstown, Huntstown and surrounding areas. The school delivers a comprehensive and inclusive curriculum that balances academic rigour with personal development, encouraging students to excel academically, socially and emotionally. Emphasis is placed on fostering a caring, respectful environment where diversity is celebrated and every learner is supported to reach their full potential. The school’s ethos is built around the core values of care, respect, community, inclusion, equality, justice and fairness. These principles underpin a wide range of extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities and community‑education programmes that enhance students’ life‑skills such as teamwork, communication and resilience. Facilities are set within a green‑field site adjacent to Hartstown Park, providing ample open space for sports, outdoor learning and community events, while modern classrooms and specialised rooms support a varied and engaging learning experience.

History

Hartstown Community School was established under a Deed of Trust and opened in September 1992 on a green‑field site surrounded by large open areas and adjacent to Hartstown Park. It was founded to meet the educational needs of young people in Hartstown, Huntstown and the wider community through Community Education programmes. The school’s patrons are the Dublin and Dún Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB) and the Archbishop of the Dublin Diocese, and its spirit reflects the multi‑denominational values of DDLETB together with the Christian traditions and founding intentions of Archbishop Desmond Connell.
