About
Hewetson National School is a co‑educational primary school situated on a three‑acre campus approximately one kilometre from Clane, County Kildare. Managed under the Church of Ireland ethos, the school welcomes families of all faiths and none, fostering an inclusive community where every child is valued. The curriculum serves pupils from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, aged four to thirteen, and is delivered by a team of classroom teachers together with a dedicated special‑education teacher, ensuring support for a range of learning needs. The school’s facilities have been remodelled to meet contemporary educational requirements, providing spacious classrooms, well‑maintained outdoor play areas and resources that encourage both academic and creative pursuits. Emphasising holistic development, Hewetson National School promotes not only literacy and numeracy but also creativity, confidence, kindness and a strong sense of belonging. The learning environment is designed to inspire curiosity and encourage children to reach their full potential within a caring and vibrant community.
History
The school was established on its present site in 1805 following the closure of Betaghstown School and its amalgamation with the Church of Ireland School in Clane. Since then it has evolved, undergoing modern remodelling to accommodate current educational needs while retaining its historic roots.
