About
Holmpatrick National School is a small, co‑educational Church of Ireland primary school situated in the seaside town of Skerries. The school prides itself on intimate class sizes and a no‑uniform policy, allowing pupils to learn in a relaxed, supportive environment where individuality is respected. Lessons begin at 08:30 to accommodate family routines, and the school maintains strong links with local after‑school programmes that collect children from the gate, providing convenient extended care options. The ethos centres on community, kindness and confidence‑building, with mixed‑age classes that foster peer interaction and a strong sense of belonging. Modern facilities at the Convent Lane site, which the school moved to in 1984, support a broad curriculum and extracurricular activities, while the close‑knit staff‑to‑pupil ratio ensures each child is known, valued and encouraged to reach their potential.
History
Holmpatrick National School opened in 1836 as a private school owned by the Hamilton family, becoming a cornerstone of education in Skerries. In 1892 it entered the National School system, and early 20th‑century inspections praised its well‑taught, engaged pupils. The school relocated to its present Convent Lane premises in 1984, allowing for modern facilities and greater capacity, and has continued to expand while preserving nearly two centuries of educational heritage.
