About

Kilbehenny National School is a co‑educational primary school situated in the village of Kilbehenny, Mitchelstown, on the Limerick side of the Cork‑Limerick border. The school serves children from Junior Infants through to Sixth Class, organising pupils into distinct class groups (Junior Infants, Infants, 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th). With an enrolment of approximately 102 pupils, the school operates a full‑time staff complement that includes four mainstream class teachers, a support teacher, three Special Needs Assistants and a part‑time secretary, ensuring a low pupil‑to‑staff ratio and personalised support for all learners. The school’s ethos centres on providing a structured, caring and secure environment that nurtures the intellectual, spiritual, physical, moral and cultural development of each child. A strong emphasis is placed on recognising individual talents, fostering confidence and encouraging teamwork, so that pupils can achieve their best academically while also developing social and emotional skills. Daily routines are clearly defined, with school opening at 8:50 am, class times from 9:05 am, and scheduled breaks for morning refreshment and lunch, supporting a balanced and organised learning day. Kilbehenny NS promotes a happy and inclusive community, aiming to ensure every child feels valued and motivated to learn. The school’s commitment to holistic education is reflected in its focus on both academic achievement and the broader well‑being of its pupils, preparing them to become confident, caring members of the wider community.
