About

Kilcleagh National School is a small rural primary school located midway between Moate and Athlone, catering for boys and girls aged 4‑13 years. As a Catholic school under the patronage of the Bishop of Ardagh & Clonmacnoise, it embraces a strong Christian ethos, seeking to nurture a holistic vision of each child as created in the image of God. The school places great emphasis on community, viewing pupils, parents, staff and the board of management as partners who work together in an atmosphere of harmony, friendship and mutual respect. The curriculum is complemented by a wide range of extra‑curricular activities. Pupils regularly take part in basketball, soccer, swimming, Gaelic football, Irish dancing, cycling, athletics and gymnastics, while a developing music programme is forthcoming. Kilcleagh NS also promotes environmental stewardship through its Green Schools policy, encouraging children to respect and protect the natural world. The school’s stated aims focus on personal development, self‑discipline, independent thinking, self‑esteem, further education and sound moral, social and religious growth.
